Day 8, June 30th - Some fun and some work

Day 8 Sunday June 30th

We awake to a beautiful morning on Day 8.  Today was to be a combined work day and fun day but of course it started with freshly ground coffee.  Once coffee was over we did some work around till around noon but luckily were saved from further work by the visit of Dennis and Mary Ann, Mike and Debbie fellow sailors.  We had visited Dennis and Maryanne the day before and they had come over to check out our new home.

Once the visit was over we headed off for a dinghy ride over to the South Benjamin Island.  The Benjamins are one of the highlights of the North Channel featuring the rounded pink granite bedrock and the windswept White Pine, one of our favourite spots.  We climbed to the top of the island and had a lunch of cheese, smoked oysters and crackers, an excellent lunch with a beautiful view.

After lunch we headed out to see if we could catch up with the other boaters.  We met up with the rest of the group and have a swim.

It was then time to head back to boat as Doug was going to come over to give us a hand installing the DC power outlets.  We got two installed and it was time for dinner.  Thanks Doug for a job well done.

Dinner was again excellent and were enjoying an after dinner drink when the Canada day celebration fireworks started.  We quickly moved back to our individual boats and prepared to fight any firework which may land on us.  The fireworks were being launched from the beach about 100 meters from our boat.  The show was quite good, with us practising our night photo skills; we still have lots to work on.

One last item before calling it a night, Dave and Lori from the boat Schatzee had two guests with them, one of who was an Astronomer.  We all jumped into our dinghies for a guided tour of the night sky.  It was a great excursion as John had obiviously done this before.   John led us through the night sky with both facts and stories of the various constellations. It was a great way to finish and excellent day.

Cheers

Dawson and Julie
