Day 131, Thursday October 31

Day 131, Thursday October 31

We try to catch the shuttle to West Marine, but it is full and he says he will come back in 30 minutes so we wait, doing nothing and after an hour he has still not come, so we decide to walk to the library instead.  It is a very frustrating day as we have no internet at the marina, so we go to the library, but then you have to go outside and lose the internet to establish a link with the satellite phone.  We have a ton to do to get ready for this passage and everything is made difficult.  At the library Dawson needs both the ipad and laptop so Julie is just hanging around.  All in all we accomplish nothing as the satellite phone data link is not working.  It is working as a phone, but we need to be able to get weather downloaded.
Riley, one of the youngest Salty Dawgs
We walk back to the boat, and Julie attends a provisioning seminar which is interesting and then gets the flags hung, sprays the deck to remove salt and starts re-organizing the boat to make room for crew. This is the story of our lives, re-organize and find spots to put stuff and then remember what we did with them.  We pretty well had it figured out but now we will have new places for stuff.
Julie does have her 5th or is it 6th meltdown of the trip but there is a quick recoveryas there is a 5:00 weather briefing and there is talk of a delayed departure until Wednesday the 6th.  Oh well not much to be done about it.  This takes some of the pressure off as it gives us 2 more days to prepare.  There is a dark and stormy party after the weather briefing and some music.

We have new neighbours at the dock and they will provide entertainment on one of the upcoming nights.  They decided to go on this trip when they lost everything in Hurricane Sandy.  They had no problem not filling the boat at first as they had nothing.  They have 2 daughters and the youngest caught the attention of many.

Cheers
Julie and Dawson
