Well we woke up in the “north”, and what we call our home
waters. Today is our day to stop in to
civilization and get some errands done.
There are bills to pay, groceries to buy, boat repair misc. Items to
purchase, diesel fuel and propane so we can continue to cook. We left Goderich without even thinking about
our propane supply which is our cooking fuel.
Luckily we had brought a few small cylinders of propane for the barbeque
and our main cylinders did have a bit in order to use the stove.
Little Current Swing Bridge |
We had a restful night in Hayward. Only 2 boats and very light winds so no
concern about anchoring. We took our
time getting the day going as it was only about 2 hours to get docked in Little
Current. As always we had a list of
tasks to move us forward on getting the boat to feel like home and stay on top
of maintenance. Dawson changed the
transmission oil for the first time, applying some new knowledge. By 11:00 we were on our way towards the
swing bridge and timed it perfectly, which means we were there 5 minutes before
it is scheduled to open. Interesting it is the bridge's 100 anniversary. Unfortunately we were unable
to sail as there were no winds at all so the iron genny pushed us along.

Not many boats in Little Current so we had lots of room to
creep up to the wall and tie our lines.
Little Current has free internet and allows daytime docking for free so
we were happy to come to town and spend some money. Only took us a couple hours to stock up. We were sad to hear that no one in Little
Current fills propane tanks. The closest
is M’Chigeeng which is about 40 kms away.
Not very handy for boaters. Not
sure what we are going to do. Friends
are coming to town, so hopefully we can mooch some wheels for that errand. Soon enough it is 4:00 and we decide to make
our way over to the anchoring area behind Picnic island. We managed to pay our credit card bills, pay
for our insurance on the boat, check out facebook and we were off again.
We crept our way in behind Picnic Island. There are a few hazards so were careful to
approach slowly. Once in there was good
shelter and water. We had a fabulous
lobster tail dinner to celebrate our progress.
The evening was spent cleaning and organizing and we hosted our first
guests, as Colleen and Will were over at Spider Bay and walked over to Hi Lo
Park and after a 15 minute unravelling of our dinghy Dawson picked them up to
come over and visit for the evening.
Again another first as we had never launched the dinghy yet from the
Davits, nor operated the 15HP mercury.
More success as the outboard started albeit a bit quirky. Needs a tune up!
Sunset at anchor |
We returned Colleen and Will to the shore by 10:00 and
called it a night.
Cheers
Julie and Dawson
