Day 291, Wednesday April 9th
So there is some confusion about when yesterday ended and
today started. All to say we only got 2
hours sleep last night and it was horrible.
Sailboat dragged aground |
Dawn broke with 2 boats up on shore as mentioned in
yesterday’s blog. We got word that
everyone would gather at 4:00 p.m. high tide to see what could be done to help
them off the rocks. We spent the day
again on anchor watch and cat napping.
The wind was not letting up. It
howled 20 with gusts to about 30 all day until about 4:00. We were very thankful we managed as well as
we did the night before. Preparation for
emergencies helps. We always know where
our headlamps are. The boat is outfitted
with red lights so we don’t lose our night vision. The steering wheel was left on and we had
good electronics to navigate us in the dark.
We always leave the key in the ignition in the event of needing the
engine suddenly. Both of us also, know
our jobs and can anticipate the other persons commands for anchoring etc. as we
have done it so many times. All in all
we did not panic and we got away unscathed!
Dawson getting dinghy secured |
While on anchor watch during the day, we did some paperwork,
and prepared for the long trip back to the USA.
Dawson did go to shore in the late afternoon to blog and try to upload a
few things from the internet. Julie went
to the resort convenience store to buy some milk and get off the boat for a
couple of minutes. We got invited to
“docktails”, but took a pass as we were feeling a bit tired from the last 48
hours. The wind finally started to die
down in the late afternoon and we went to bed feeling the worst was past, and
slept like logs.
Cheers
Julie and Dawson
