Day 161 Saturday November 30

Day 161 Saturday November 30

Day starts out the same as all days on the adventure, a coffee from freshly ground beans.  After breakfast we head to shore; Julie for a walk and Dawson for a run.  We plan to meet at the Bluff House Marina across the bay from our starting point.  Along the way Julie pickups a freshly fallen coconut and a small orange like fruit which she brings back to the dingy.   Once back at the marina we learn that the fruit is an unripe sasparillo (nicknamed dilly) which when ripe is eaten out of the hand.

The original plan for the day was to head into the village of New Plymouth with Catherine for a Christmas Craft Bazaar as we are in need of a knitted tea cosy.     However we find out the bazaar is set for a 6 oclock start which is a little late for us.  Instead we head over to Gillam Bay for a walk on the beach at the south end of the Cay.  It is a beautiful beach walk with Catherine shelling as we go.  The walk on the beach is about a 1.5 miles but luckily we find the shortcut back to where we started, it makes for an excellent loop hike.
After our exercise portion for the day we head over to Pineapple Bar and Grill for a beer. This is the spot we were to go to the night before, but bailed. It is a lovely spot just what you would expect for a local beach front bar and grill. The road however was treacherous on vehicles.Deep ruts down to the sharp coral limestone. We get a beer each and sit down by the beach, there are two fellows making fresh Conch Salad and for $10 you can have a bowl. One is pulling the live conch out of their shells and the other fellow is slicing the conch, peppers, tomatoes and onion up.We order two and are delighted in the taste, we had been told to have some when we get the chance and it was definitely worthwhile. After our snack we head back to Catherine’s to catch the sunset.

We arm ourselves with a G and T each and head out to the East Side of the bay to watch the sunset.  It is picture perfect with villa, two catamarans, palm trees and an excellent sunset.  Once the sun is down we figure it is time for dinner and head down to the Green Turtle Marina.  We meet up with the rest of sailors and have an excellent dinner with the 8 of us.  As we are ordering a bride and groom walk in, we applaud them and wish them the best of luck.  We then notice they have a good looking wedding cake and try to get invited for a taste, we even have the hostess try and she brings us all up to sing Happy Wedding (or something along this line).  No luck no cake, oh well.
Sunset on Coco Beach

Around 8 we are back at the boat, coffee and a game of Kings Cribbage and we are in bed.

Cheers

Dawson and Julie
