Day 164, Tuesday December 3 - A day with a nice sail

Day 164, Tuesday December 3 - A day with a nice sail

That's our SSB receiver beside Dawson's foot
We start the day with a successful single sideband transmission of Chris Parker doing the weather during coffee.  A culmination of almost 2 months of getting this ssb radio to work.  Yeah!  Next Dawson changes the fuel filter for the aft fuel tank while Julie tries to get rid of the dampness after yesterdays rain.  All the rugs and bedding is hung outside the boat.  We look like the Clampetts.  It is ok as most of our neighbours do the same thing.

We head to town to buy a new rug as a couple of ours have bit the dust.  We have some success.  They aren’t fancy but they will do.   We also pick up a light for the cockpit at night so that we can see when we are sitting out at night.  We have decided to head over to Guana Cay today which is known for its beaches. Today we are again reminded of the lack of tourists here in the Bahamas . The place is empty.
An interesting modification to a Jetski

Life is a Beach
Julie on the Beach
We head out on the 8 mile run over to Guana Cay and have a beautiful sail.  The winds are a bit light, but that way there is little heel and we can relax/sunbathe as we travel.  We take a mooring in Settlement Bay in about 5.5 feet of water at low tide.  We may rest in the muck if our depth sounder is off at all.  Low tide is at midnight so if we start rolling out of bed we will know it is too shallow.  We head out for a beautiful walk along the Atlantic.  Normally the winds have been howling but not today.  The beach is 7 miles long.  Just beautiful!  We miss the sunset  by a few minutes unfortunately.  We pop into Orchid Bay Resort hoping to catch their wifi, but it is not working, so we enjoy the pink sky from their Adirondack chairs until the no see ums chase us in.

Dusk on the Sea of Abaco

Back to the boat for our typical quiet evening.  Julie continues with her French lessons until the computer power is gone.

Cheers

Julie and Dawson
