Day 34, Friday July 26
Well today is the beginning of the next phase of our
trip. We said goodbye to the North
channel and our friends as we started our sail south. Winds were from the south so we could head
east to the Bustard Islands. The sail
was great and we arrived at dinnertime after about a 7 hour sail.

During the sail we decided to hoist our stay sail which we
had never used. The stay sail is an
extra foresail that converts us to a “cutter rigged” boat. We were healed quite a bit and the waves were
jostling us around a bit, so easier said than done lugging a sail on deck and
getting it rigged. Ultimately we got it
figured out. It did not add much speed,
maybe an extra .2 of a knot. Not worth
the effort. If winds were really high we
would use this sail instead of our Genoa which is the head sail we normally
use. Good we launched it so we know what we are doing when those storms
ultimately come.
We were surprised there are no other boats here at the
Bustards. We are all alone in a Bay we have
visited once before about 7 years ago.
After dinner, we were sitting in the cockpit and a loon popped up right
beside the boat and stared at us for a few minutes. He was so close I swear we saw his brain
working behind those beady little eyes.
He only stayed a short time then headed off to find his buddy.
Cheers Julie and Dawson
