Day 35, Saturday, July 27th
Well today is not a “nice” day. The forecasted winds are on the nose and we
have extra time to doddle so we decide to stay put. It is always nice to have a day to unwind and
do some chores between sails. We have
not been to the Bustard islands for about 7 years. Last time Gary Trevisiol came eye to eye with
a bear.
Dawson decides it is time to change out the water
system. We have been having an ongoing
problem of the pump running when no water is being discharged. Somewhere we suspect a minor drip or
leak. Dawson has tightened up all the
clamps, however there are lots cause Glenn the previous owner put in a lovely
marine water system so there is double the piping. Since we doubt we will ever stay at the
docks, Dawson decides to pull the extra piping (sorry Glenn if you are reading
this). It takes about 5 hours and he is
hunched for the day in the Lazurette with about 3 feet of headroom. After all is done, the pump still kicks
on. Darn! We will master this issue eventually.
The fridge has also had some pump problems. Sometimes the water pump is not kicking on
when the fridge is cycling. Dawson is
having a relationship with these components also.
Julie continues on her mindless job of cleaning the
stainless. It is the last third to be
completed. It is important to clean and
treat the stainless regularly once we get to salt water. Not as big an issue here in the fresh water,
but it looks great and now we know what product to use and how much work it
is. Next time will be New York or else
Annapolis.
We hear a motor and wonder if there is another issue but
then realize it is a motor boat that came in to check out the anchorage, but
turned around and headed out. Oh well,
no new friends.
Julie is also madly trying to get results from Ross’s race
in Belgium. He is back to a 1500m race
and this is the final race of his season.
We finally find it on twitter and Ross had a photo finish, second place. His time is good, but not a PB so he is not
fully satisfied. Oh well on to holiday
in Croatia. Have fun Ross, you have
worked hard. Don’t forget about those
exams you have in 2 weeks though.
It started to rain in the evening and we had a huge downpour
all night. Alarm is set for 5 to get an
early start and make some headway tomorrow.
See how that goes....
Cheers Julie and Dawson
