Day 75 Thursday September 5th, 2013

We have decided to stay another day in Port Stanley and catch up on a few jobs we just don’t get to when we are underway.  The winds were strong out of the northeast and we would not be able to get to our next safe anchorage/dock in daylight so tomorrow looks like a better travel day.  We get moving by 7:30 and enjoy our excellent coffee.  Today’s list of jobs is to clean and treat the plastic and canvas on the new enclosure, swab the deck, shop at the chandlery for our list of wants and bumble around town.  It is nice and sunny but not warm yet so we start with the grocers and the chandlery and are happy to find an assortment of teak.  We decide to come back with our binoculars to ensure they will fit into the holder.  We have been scouting out for a binocular holder for a while and they have 2 different styles so we are pleased.

Back to the boat as it has warmed up and we scrub the deck.  Julie even has a toothbrush to scrub in and around all the tackle.  Boat cleans up beautifully.  We also hose off the canvas, and then head to town or a bumble while that dries.  We stop in at the Yacht club to ask Cathy if she knows anyone wanting to sell their eastern seaboard/Caribbean charts etc.  Fortunately she knows about 3 other local couples that may be interested so she takes us around the neighborhood, knocking on doors to introduce us.  Only Karen is home, but says they have some stuff and she will dig it out.  Cathy texts the others and will get back to us.  We then head back to the chandlery to test the binocular fit and buy our teak holder.  Yeah it fits perfect in the indoor holder.   Next is the library to print off our boat registration which has finally come through.  We now have our paperwork in order to leave the country.  They also have a book sale on so we buy 12 music CD’s and a couple of books for $2 a bag and it fit in one bag with lots of room to spare. Back to the boat for lunch, and continue on with our cleaning.  The canvas has dried, but the town water must be hard because it has left a whole bunch of white deposits on the canvas so it does not look as good as it did before hosing it off.  Oh well, rain will fix that.  Julie treats the plastic, while Dawson teak oils the new binocular case.  Slowly we are getting the boat organized.

New neighbors pull in so we help them dock and say hello and exchange stories, then it is time to head off to GT’s for dinner.  We have bought tickets from the local yacht club to join in their social as they are hosting the international soling championships this weekend.  We meet more people who have been to the Caribbean and pick their brains.  The buffet is good, although we eat too much.  Cathy McCauley joins us and we thank her for all her help.  She is just amazing with information and just down right friendly.  There are some books that Karen and Ab have dug up back at the yacht club so we head over to pick them up and go visit them at their house where they cajole us with some of their sailing stories.  We already have a few of the same books so negotiate to buy 2 of their Bahamas chart books which will be great to have.  Thanks Karen and Ab.
We are off to bed early as we have a 5:15 alarm setting to get through the 6 o’clock bridge before sunrise.

Cheers

Julie and Dawson
