Day 78, Sunday September 8th
Julie hoisting USA courtesy flag in preparation for tomorrow |
Today we are spending our last day in Canada. We wake up to an email from Kathy and John
who we met the July long weekend and had managed to lose their contact
information. Luckily they spotted us on
the marine traffic software and contacted us.
Julie called them and they could come over for a hello. We started inventorying our stuff awaiting
their arrival. After an hour or so, they
found us in the marina and we had a great visit getting to know each other
better and regaling our summer weekend together. Kathy is Laurie Slats…. From the boat square
waves sister. We have known Kathy’s
sister Laurie for many years and had the luxury of rafting a couple of times
over the years.

Mailing Kevin's birthday card |
The boat is now a mess with everything pulled out and we are
also expecting Ross’s arrival for a visit.
Ross has never even seen our boat so we were hoping to make a good first
impression. That was not meant to be
though with everything pulled out. Oh
well. Ross arrived by 2:00 and go the
official tour and then we headed out for a walk along the canal. We found a neat art gallery hosted by an
interesting owner who shared stories about the many artists which increased our
appreciation immensely. The streets
were very quiet and there were a few shops to pop into, all the while chatting
to Ross about his summer adventures, his back to school schedule and upcoming
racing season. We decided to head back
to the marina or an early dinner on the patio which was nice. Soon we were saying good-bye to Ross which is
always a bit sad, however we will see Ross at Christmas as both boys have
booked their flights to the Bahamas for the holidays.
Our final goodbye |
We dive back into our inventory project which consists of
identifying all the parts, pieces and paraphernalia we have on board to fix and
maintain all our gear. It took a couple
more hours and we found some stuff we did not even know we had. Thanks Glenn for being pro active on
inventory.
By 9:30 we were done this job and heading to bed.
Cheers
Julie and Dawson
