Day 230, Friday Feb 7

Day 230, Friday Feb 7

We were going to go exploring to the north today, but since Slow Waltz arrived and Windward and Jalu have returned we will spend the day playing with them, as they are wonderful company.
The day starts off with exercise.  The regular yoga instructor has returned so Julie gives that a try.  We have really enjoyed Jodi’s exercise classes, however the yoga is the normal beach exercise around here.  The yoga is excellent, very traditional style, which Julie does not prefer, however it is hugely appreciated that people volunteer their time and lead us.  Dawson goes for his run which is started and followed by a small hike through waist deep water.  We meet up at the dinghy and head back to the mothership.  Time for some French lessons and Dawson wants to test our radio signals before we head out for our snorkel and spear fishing afternoon activity.

We meet up at 1:30 with Jalu, and Windward and Dwight from .....can’t remember the name of his boat.  Off we go in 3 dinghies in search of some good coral with structure.  In order to do this we look for shallower reefs and then Julie puts her mask on sticks her head in the water from the dinghy.  It is quite wavy as we have come out the cut into the Atlantic so the front of the dinghy is rocking up and down about 3 to 4 feet so sometimes Julie’s head gets quite immersed.  It is fun though and we think we find a decent spot, but it is not so good so we up anchor and move along.  The next spot is just okay as it is about 25 feet deep so not easy to get low enough to see much let alone catch supper.   We move to a third spot and this one is much better.  Julie enjoys just looking at the colourful fish and diving down looking under shelves for lobster.  Dawson has bought a spear so we are hoping to get a lobster today.  Julie is nervous though as there are 4 spears in the water and when someone spears something, some vibrating message gets sent by the speared fish and the sharks then come to visit.  Ian does spear one fish and Julie exits the water into the dinghy as a precaution.  All in all we spend about 2 hours on our expedition and have lots of fun and exercise.  Dennis says they saw 1 shark, but luckily Julie did not.

On our way back to the mothership about 2 miles we decide to pop into the “chat and chill” beach bar to see Gwen and Giomme as they have friends from Sudbury that are meeting them for the afternoon.  We play the do you know game with not much success until we move the game to Manitoulin Island.  Then all of a sudden we know lots of people in common.  It is now 5:00 and we have dinner/Olympic opening ceremony plans on Windward so head back to clean up and dinghy across the anchorage to our hosts boat.  Tracy and Dennis are also joining in and we have a great evening together.

Cheers

Julie and Dawson
