Day 128, Monday October 28th - A trip down the
Bay
For a second early morning in a row, Julie was up at 5:30
grinding coffee to get us going. Dawson
is starting to suspect that aliens have her.
We are departing from the Solomon Islands, approximately half way down
the Chesapeake, on our way to Hampton Virginia, located at the mouth. It is from Hampton that we will leave for the
Bahamas on our 800 mile ocean passage on Nov. 4th. It will still take us two more days to get
to Hampton. We had looked at the wind
forecast and it does not look like a good day for sailing but off we go. There is no wind to speak of so it was a
motoring trip today for 10 hours. It
makes for a long day having the engine noise groaning away. There are 2 other salty dawg rally boats
anchoring with us as we move south. We
see a few Pelicans, lots of other boats, but no dolphins. Julie is anxious to see her first wild
dolphin on this trip. We envision a
school of them frolicking along the boat as we travel.
The ratio of bad hair days has now overtaken the good hair
days, so most pictures are now accompanied with a hat. There is a report of a person lost overboard
along our route of travel so we are keeping an eye to the water in hopes that
we spot the poor fellow. The Coast Guard
has asked all boaters to be vigilant as they pass though the area. Unfortunately the calls of Pan Pan from the
CG continue until we anchor. We do get a
bit of wind at the end of the day so that we can sail for the last hour into Fish
Harbour our home for the night which near Deltaville Virginia. The good news is that we have heard it is
always warm in Virgina.
By 17:30 we are at anchor in a nicely protected harbour with
a number of other boats, quite a few are Canadian. Another excellent dinner by Julie (soup this
time), coffee and a game of King’s Cribbage and it is off to bed. A Simple Yet Fullfilling Life.
Cheers
Dawson and Julie
