Day 133, Saturday November 2nd
Julie is off to yoga, while Greg and Dawson attend the
meeting of the Bahamas boats on Irish Rover. The meeting goes well as they line
up a communication strategy, discuss direct information requested from Chris
Parker and start the routing process. We
have received a weather update specifically for us heading to Bahamas and it
sounds like we can head out on Monday as previously planned so we are very
happy about that news.
Dawson pouring over the routing maps |
Dawson now is doing last minute prep. Securing all the stays and shrouds with
cotter pins and tape, fixing a few things, changing the transmission oil
etc. Greg and Julie head to Wal Mart and
West Marine for provisioning prior to heading to Norfolk to pick up Rob.
Rob, Dawson and Greg |
Unfortunately Robs flight is over an hour late, so Greg and
Julie are hanging around the airport.
They were also about 30 minutes early and hence it is a boring
wait. Finally Rob has arrived,
introductions are done and the three of us are heading back to the boat. Dawson has attended the weather briefing
meetings and Julie, Greg and Rob make the byob happy hour, and tonight’s
chicken barbeque. As we approach the
Salty Dawghouse, we hear lots of laughter and noise. They are doing the draws for the donated
prizes. We have bought 5 tickets and are
keeping our fingers crossed. We make our
way through the room and hear a number called and sure enough Julie has the
ticket. Up she goes and claims the gift
certificate for some sheets, which is worth a couple hundred dollars. Most of the prizes have been drawn as we are
late, however it sounds like they are holding the tickets for the unclaimed
prizes vs. drawing again. The only prize
we want is the pressure cooker and we wonder if it has been called already. There are about 5 more draws and then it is
done, but Bill (the organizer) calls out 2 unclaimed prizes and one of them is
the pressure cooker. Julie pulls out her
4 remaining tickets and wouldn’t you know hers matches the pressure cooker.
Lots of jealous women in the room. There
has been a seminar on pressure cooking which lots of boaters like to do and
many women wanted the prize. Julie had
shopped for a pressure cooker but could not bring herself to pay the 270
dollars for a good one, so is thrilled with her winnings. Double winners tonight! We hope we have not used up all our luck.
Rob is bagged as it has taken him 2 days to get to Norfolk
from Comox B.C. and he has only had a catnap on the plane during his 30 hours
of travel. We once again all head back
to the boat early. We are quite cozy
being 4 on the boat.
Cheers
Julie and Dawson
