Day 30 - A track meet and off to see the Dinosaurs

The day started with our departure from Pat and Kingsley Payne’s house who are Caroline Wright’s folks in Edmonton. They kindly offered a warm comfortable bed to us when we met up at the Wright cabin a month ago. We headed out to Cora’s for breakfast then off to Mountain Equipment Co-op to see if we could spend some money and get a few items we think we will want for our trip to Peru and Chile. Julie got a rain coat and we bought some water treatment drops. We are taking typhoid vaccine tablets currently to help us avoid getting sick, but better safe than sorry. After MEC we were headed back to the track for the last day of competition.

Heather had 2 races and Ross had the 1500 besides the many other competitions of the young adults we have met through Ross’s running career. It was a joy to cheer on all these amazing athletes that work so hard and remain so dedicated through all the pain, thrills and disappointments. It was a successful day with Guelph capturing bronze for the women’s team and gold for the men’s team. Combined they had the most points overall; a fabulous achievement. Ross got a bronze in the 1500m which he was very happy with as he has struggled with a tendon injury and not been able to train for the indoor season. Heather had 2 exciting relays, the 200 and 400. Guelph did well in both collecting points for the team but finishing off the podium.

After the meet we drove down to Drumheller to see the museum and badlands on Sunday for the day before heading back to Calgary, but that is for tomorrow’s story.

Cheers Julie and Dawson
