Day 223, Friday, January 31
Today is Dawson’s one year anniversary off work. There is not a celebration planned but we do
note the significance. We move the boat
over to Stocking island anchorage near where there are lots of activities and
socialization so we can join in without having to dinghy too far. There are about 200 boats in and around so we
weave our way through the boats to select an area both of us are happy
with. This is not always easy to
do. Luckily we are both content.

Dawson looking bored |
Dawson is attending an electronic/boat battery info session
and Julie and Marcene head to shore for a hike.
Us hikers are trying to find a trail across the island to the ocean
side. We are told we can get there
although we will have to walk across part of the lagoon. As we are walking along in about knee deep
water there are 2 very large rays and one of them comes towards us which is a
bit intimidating. They are about 4 feet
across and pretty neat to see so up close.
We start to head across the lagoon, but the tide is not low enough so we
abandon the route and decide we will do power water walking instead. We stop and watch one of the locals harvesting the conch to make some conch salad.
The weather is already about 25 degrees
celcius and it is only 10 in the morning.
After a while we head up to the pub to wait for Dawson and meet and chat
to lots of women. At noon it starts to pour rain and we had left one of
the bathroom hatches open. Dawson offers
to go close it as his course is done now.

We have lunch then head over to bridge lessons. Lesson 3 for Dawson and Julie but Marcene has
to catch up so the instructor bombards her with information on the game.
